Exxaro coal is a critical supplier of coal to some of South Africa’s hungriest power plants. Turnstar was recently awarded the contract for the supply of two solar powered high speed Velocity traffic barriers to secure one of their critical underground mines. The vehicle barriers were each supplied with their own adjustable mounting pole which allows for angular adjustment depending on the season, as well as a solar charge controller which powers up the batteries. The two 4.5m barriers are manufactured from powder coated 3Cr12 stainless steel and use a BLDC motor with planetary gearbox which enables high speed and consistent operation. For safety, the barrier has a dual channel loop detector and the motors ‘hall’ sensors can detect a collision within milliseconds, allow the barrier arm to reverse in the event of a collision.
