CCU is the leader of the beer business in Chile and has a history which goes all the way back to 1850 when Don Joaquin Plagemann Valparaiso founded his first brewery. The brewery business took on a more formal structure in 1902 when an amalgamation of breweries joined forces to create what would later become CCU. Just some of the stats: 6 400 employees. 19 million hectoliters of beverages produced annually. Over 330 000 clients in Chile, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay. Strategic partnerships with Pepsi, Heineken, Schweppes, Guinness and Nestle.
CCU chose the Talon Barrier automatic spike barrier to protect 10 vehicle/truck lanes at its production facility 1h30 drive from Santiago, the capital city. The spike barrier which is a common site in South Africa was of much interest to the project team as it offers a solution that is totally unique to Chile. Turnstar’s spike barrier offers a high level of protection and the specially designed double sided spike ensures tyre puncturing no matter which direction the vehicle is travelling.
